While Jonestown was a very secluded place in the middle of the Guyana jungle, word about what was happening did not travel hardly at all. It was a very private camp with armed guards. Leo Ryan, the congressman from California became aware of the situation at Jonestown through mail he received. He wanted to go and take a look for himself. Ryan figured he would be safe, being that he is a US Congressman.
Ryan traveled to Guyana and his "investigation" rang true. He saw just what he needed to bring information back to the American people. Ryan offered to bring 12 people back to America with him on his plane. That was a fatal mistake for him and the 12 others.
Although, almost 900 people died, there really was no case involved. All the evidence stacked up to Jim Jones, who was already dead. This was more of a story than an FBI cold case.
